Anthony Evans, 30, was arrested in Midtown on Tuesday morning, according to police.
Evans, of Hamilton Heights, faces charges of assault as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon.

The 59-year-old victim, who was heading home from buying groceries when she was attacked, told WABC that she believes she may have been targeted because she is Asian.
The slashing left a deep gash in her hand and wrist. She said there was “a lot of bleeding” and that she’s now afraid to leave home.

Evans’ arrest comes a day after the NYPD identified him as their prime suspect in Sunday morning’s brazen, daytime attack.
Video released by the NYPD on Monday shows the victim walking down a crowded sidewalk with a cart at Seventh Avenue and W. 42nd Street around 10 a.m. when her attacker storms up behind her while holding the boxcutter in the air.
The man lunges at the woman with the weapon and slashes her in the right hand, video shows.
The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.
