NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New York City Department of Sanitation TikTok reminding drivers about alternate side parking is paying homage to an iconic, gut-wrenching commercial.

The city agency posted the over-minute-long public service announcement featuring Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" on Tuesday to coincide with the full reinstatement of the city's alternate side parking rules.
In a parody of the public service announcement from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that sought donations for animal cruelty, DSNY employees and Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch ask drivers to "please" move their cars to avoid blocking street sweepers.
"Will you move your car?" Tisch says in the video. "Every day, litter gets on the streets of our city, and it’s crying out to be cleaned up. A single mechanical broom sucks 1500 pounds of street litter off of New York City streets. But they don’t work if you don’t move your car for alternate side parking."
"We need you to do your part," one worker adds.
The end of the video reads: "Full Alternate Side Parking is now in effect. Please move your car. ... And please consider supporting your local animal rescue organization."
This requirement was reinstated after being reduced by then-Mayor Bill de Blasio at the height of the 2020 pandemic.
However, an online petition that has asked for the return of the COVID-era shift has garnered over 2,700 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon.
For now, drivers must move their vehicles at least twice a week for street sweeping or risk receiving a $65 ticket. Some areas will even require vehicle owners to move there car three or more times a week.
