NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Saturday Night Live teased Mayor Eric Adams for taking a victory lap for the arrest of Frank James, the man who set off smoke bombs and shot 10 New Yorkers at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday.

“We got him. We got the shooter. Sure it took 30 hours, and the suspect turned himself in, but we got him,” said SNL cast member Chris Redd while evoking Adams’ New York accent.
SNL’s Adams doppelganger alluded to the mayor’s announcement of the arrest, where he said “My fellow New Yorkers, we got him,” before praising the NYPD's handling of the search.
James left behind bank cards and car keys that the police tried to use to track down the shooter, but he was only apprehended over a day later after he called in his location to the NYPD tip line.
Even after James’ tip, he was allowed to wander off before two good Samaritans were able to flag down police and point him out.
While police were ostensibly pulling out all stops to capture the mass shooter, James reportedly wandered through some of the city’s most crowded locales without getting arrested, including Katz’s deli and Dimes, the popular cafe that Dimes Square is named after, according to Curbed.
“Case closed. Subways fixed. Ride without fear,” said SNL’s version of Adams. “And I’m not just holding a press conference about this either. I’m throwing a parade y’all. Like we do when the Yankees win the world series or the Mets finish a season.”
The SNL cold open also featured some of the sketch comedy show’s favorite topical punching bags, like Marjorie Taylor Green, Elon Musk and Donald Trump, each giving a tongue-in-cheek take on Easter.
Cecily Strong as Marjorie Taylor Green said she’d been saying ‘happy Easter’ “aggressively” to her Jewish and Muslim colleagues.
While James Austin Johnson’s version of Trump rambled abstractly about holiday symbols.
“Easter is time for basket. It’s time for bunny, and, frankly, bonnet,” he said. “And let’s not forget egg.”
