“This system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service,” Dominique Luzuriaga told a packed cathedral.

“I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA,” she continued, speaking to Rivera. “I hope he’s watching you speak through me right now. I’m sure all of our blue family is tired too.”

“But, I promise – we promise – that your death won’t be in vain,” Luzuriaga continued to a standing ovation from NYPD officers.

Rivera’s widow was speaking about Bragg’s recent changes to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, including his decision to stop prosecuting a number of charges – including resisting arrest in some cases.

Bragg has also said he would have some felony charges automatically lowered to a misdemeanor, such as in the case of certain armed robberies.

The newly sworn-in DA, who replaced Cy Vance this month, has generated a slew of controversy over his policies, which he announced his first week in office, and many people have already called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to remove him from office.

According to reports, Bragg was in the audience Friday morning as Luzuriaga gave her eulogy, and he also attended Rivera’s wake on Thursday afternoon.

However, the Manhattan DA did not respond to Luzuriaga’s criticism. Instead, he released a statement saying he is “grieving and praying” for Rivera and his partner, Wilbert Mora, who was also killed in the line of duty.

“My thoughts are with their families and the NYPD,” Bragg continued. “Violence against police officers will never be tolerated, and my office will vigorously prosecute cases of violence against the police.”
