New York City to see wintry mix of sleet, rain through Tuesday evening

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New York City and the surrounding area will likely see a wintry mix of sleet and rain continue to fall into Wednesday morning.

A winter weather advisory was issued by AccuWeather for New York City until midnight and until 6 a.m. Wednesday for the Hudson Valley region.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management has already issued a travel warning as conditions in the city are expected to be slippery throughout the day.

The sanitation department is also cautioning that sidewalks are likely to be slippery, slushy and wet.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow the city saw around noon quickly changed to sleet and rain, but flurries may be seen throughout the afternoon.

Well north and west of New York City can see more than three inches of snow, according to WCBS 880 chief meteorologist Craig Allen.

He notes the temperature in the five boroughs is expected remain in the mid-30s throughout the day.

Street cleaning was suspended throughout the day due to inclement weather and alternate side parking rules had been suspended.

On Wednesday, the weather will be drier, but the day will remain mostly cloudy and cold with a high of 39 degrees.

Thursday will be colder, with clouds and a possibility for snow flurries.
