NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An 83-year-old woman was fatally struck by a 72-year-old FedEx truck driver in Queens on Thursday morning, police said.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at around 9:50 a.m. about a pedestrian struck at the corner of Union Turnpike and 193rd Street.
Upon arrival, cops observed an 83-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, laying on the ground with body trauma.
EMS responded and transported the female to NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, where she was later pronounced deceased.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver operating a 2019 Freightliner FedEx truck made a right turn from southbound 193rd Street to westbound Union Turnpike when the vehicle struck the victim, later identified as Cecilia Armesto, as she was crossing on the west side of the intersection.
The driver remained at the scene, officials said.
There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
