NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man has been indicted for the murder of a 33-year-old woman, authorities said Wednesday.
“This defendant allegedly killed the victim in a brazen and thoughtless manner. Thankfully, he was caught with the murder weapon in his hand on high-definition video,” said District Attorney Raymond Tierney. “Violent crime, particularly gun violence, will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. These cases are a priority, and we will do everything in our power to put a stop to the violence.”
The 30-year-old Centereach man, Anthony Santiesteban, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder for the Oct. 29 killing of Patchogue mother Martina Thompson.
Santiesteban was caught on surveillance video having a lengthy conversation with Thompson, according to prosecutors, in a desolate fenced area of a strip mall parking lot.
He allegedly shot her once in the face and was seen on video leaving the fenced area with what seemed to be a semi-automatic handgun.
Days later, investigators found a loaded and defaced 9 mm handgun in Santiesteban’s bedroom after executing a search warrant.
Santiesteban faces up to life in prison if convicted. His next court date is on Dec. 13.
