NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The first family's dog Champ died Saturday, President Joe Biden announced.

“Our family lost our loving companion Champ today. I will miss him,” Biden tweeted along with a statement and a photo of the German Shepherd.

Biden said Champ “passed away peacefully at home” at the age of 13.

"He was our constant, cherished companion during the last 13 years and was adored by the entire Biden family," Biden said. "Even as Champ’s strength waned in his last months, when we came into a room, he would immediately pull himself up, his tail always wagging, and nuzzle us for an ear scratch or a belly rub."

The Bidens have another German Shepherd named Major. The Bidens adopted Major in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association. Champ joined the family after the 2008 presidential election that made Biden vice president.

Just last month, the Obamas announced that their dog Bo had died of cancer at 12.
