NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An early morning fire at a New Jersey house Wednesday injured three firefighters and displaced nearly a dozen residents, fire officials said.
The blaze erupted on the top floor of a three-family house at 1607 Kerrigan Ave. in Union City just after 4 a.m., authorities said.
The fire spread quickly throughout the house, escalating to a three-alarm response and threatening neighboring houses.
By around 6 a.m., the fire was under control. Three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released.
Nine occupants of the houses were displaced and being aided by the Red Cross. Two more residents from a neighboring house were also displaced due to water damage and power loss.
Officials said the cause of the fire was likely electric but it is still under investigation.
