MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 34-year-old man was arrested for scrawling Nazi graffiti on the houses of Jewish residents of Manchester Township and setting fire to a home, Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced Friday.

Late Tuesday night into the early hours of Wednesday, Ron Carr allegedly damaged 14 homes with graffiti and arson.

Manchester Township Police first got reports about the graffiti around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. Around 3:11 a.m. Wednesday, the fire department received reports of a house on fire.

The house was destroyed in the blaze, three other homes were damaged b and part of a wooded area behind the house caught fire, but no one was injured in the attack.

A suspicious person spotted on foot near the fire matched the description of the man caught on security camera vandalizing homes with antisemitic graffiti.

Carr was arrested later that morning.

“This crime spree and the antisemitism that it expressed caused pain, destruction, shock and fear among the residents of Manchester Township,” said Platkin. “No community in the State of New Jersey should feel vulnerable or anxious in the face of acts of intolerance. No resident should feel their personal safety or their home is threatened by bigotry, persecution and violence.”

Prosecutors charged Carr with bias intimidation, arson and criminal mischief.

He’s being held in Ocean County Jail.
