OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey man murdered his wife and dumped her body on the side of a road over the weekend, prosecutors said as they announced his arrest.

Jeremy B. Cruz, 51, of Forked River, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife, Dawn C. Cruz, also 51, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

A motorist spotted Dawn Cruz beside the road at the intersection of Asbury and Colonial avenues in Ocean Township around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Responding police officers found her with severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said.

A short time later, Jeremy Cruz turned himself in at the Berkeley Township Police Department headquarters in Ocean County, according to prosecutors.

He was arrested and remained in custody pending his first appearance and detention hearing, which was set to take place in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The circumstances surrounding Dawn Cruz’s death weren’t immediately known. Prosecutors didn’t say how or where they believe she was killed.
