NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- This week, vaccine mandates took effect for state health care workers. Conversely, any New York City school employees who are not vaccinated by the end of the week will not be allowed to work come Monday, nor be paid.
All throughout New York, hard-working people are sacrificing their jobs because they don’t want to get a jab, but are the consequences too harsh?
On these week’s episode of 880 In Depth, we hear the opinion of Dr. Leana Wen. Dr. Wen is both Emergency Physician and professor at George Washington University, as well as the former Health Commissioner for the city of Baltimore. As a healthcare expert, she explains how she views those who refuse the vaccine.
“People have a right to stay unvaccinated if they so choose, just as they have a right to be intoxicated if they so choose. But just as we as a society don't allow people to get behind the wheel of a car when they're intoxicated because they are a risk to other people, we also should set a limit,” she says.
“You should not have the right to transmit a potentially deadly disease to other people.”
We also hear the story of a frontline healthcare worker who had a religious exemption from the vaccine, but still chose to take it.
