NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — First responders from around the country joined President Joe Biden, other officials and family and friends of 9/11 victims in New York City Saturday to solemnly commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks.

Nearly 3,000 were killed in New York city in 2001 in New York, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania in the attacks executed by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Presidents Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and their wives gathered at the site where the World Trade Center towers fell two decades ago, standing side by side to somberly share moments of silence Saturday morning.

Many wearing masks as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic takes its toll on the country, first responders and family members mourned loved ones who perished and honored their memories as their names were read once more.

The six moments of silence were held to mark the times of the 9/11 attacks, including when each of the Twin Towers fell.

Musicians performed between the moments of silence, including Bruce Springsteen, who performed a chilling acoustic rendition of "I'll See You In My Dreams," moving many gathered at the memorial to tears.
