Walmart truck driver charged for leaving scene of multivehicle LI crash

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Walmart tractor-trailer driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after police said he caused an eight-vehicle crash that hurt eight people, including himself, in Nassau County Thursday.

Maxwell Taylor, 56, Amsterdam, New York, was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an incident and was released on an appearance ticket returnable for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on June 14.

According to Nassau County police, Taylor was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer for Walmart south on Newbridge Road near Falcon Street in East Meadow around 6:45 a.m. when its sideview mirror collided with a school bus carrying 18 students.

Taylor allegedly continued driving and struck seven more vehicles near Stop & Shop on Jerusalem Avenue in North Bellmore before overturning into the grocery store's parking lot.

Police said four adults and two children suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A 16-year-old student on the school bus suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Taylor suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
