Cooler temps, scattered storms for the July 4 weekend ahead of Sunday fireworks

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – After a heat wave brought scorching temperatures to the New York City area this week, the Fourth of July holiday weekend will be much cooler, with showers and storms cropping up before Sunday’s fireworks.

It’s still humid on Friday, when the high will be 77 degrees. Occasional showers and even a thunderstorm are possible throughout the day, according to AccuWeather.

Friday night is mainly cloudy as rain lingers. The low will be 63.

It’s even cooler on Saturday, when the high will be just 69. Showers will crop up again throughout the day.

Fourth of July Sunday is cloudy with a few sunny breaks and a shower or two throughout the day. The high will be 77.

Expect temperatures near 70 for the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks on Sunday night. Conditions should clear up for the big fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Temperatures rise on Monday, when it will be partly sunny and a little sticky with a high of 84.

The heat and humidity build back on Tuesday as temperatures reach 90 or better. Temps flirt with 90 again on Wednesday, when showers and thunderstorms could return.
