NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A rain and wind-driven coastal storm will pummel the New York City area from Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning, threatening flooding and power outages.

A wind advisory has been issued from 8 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for all of New York City and the surrounding area ahead of the storm. A coastal flood advisory is also up overnight for the high tide cycle along the coasts.
Monday starts chilly and sunny before the initial pockets of rain arrive around 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., according to AccuWeather.

The peak of the storm will be Monday night, when wind gusts may hit 50 mph to 60 mph, especially along the coasts of Long Island and the Jersey Shore.
Screaming wind could lead to power outages, while heavy rain may cause flooding on roadways and ponding in poor drainage areas.

Monday’s high of 54 will drop to the low 40s overnight, and to the 30s further inland. The New York City area will be spared snow in the forecast for Upstate.
By Tuesday morning, winds should ease to 40 mph and rain should taper, but expect a messy a.m. commute.

Tuesday is otherwise windy and quite chilly. Some drizzle is possible to start, and showers may pop up in some areas in the afternoon. The high will be 53, with AccuWeather RealFeel temps in the 30s and 40s.
A warmup begins Wednesday, when it will be mostly sunny with a high of 59 degrees.
High temps hit 62 on Thursday, and nearly 70 on Friday, under partly sunny skies.
