Wrong-way driver charged with DWI after stealing beer from LI gas station: police

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Suffolk County man was arrested early Wednesday for driving while intoxicated after he allegedly drove the wrong way and then stole beer from a gas station.

Lance Broussand, 37, was driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra eastbound in the westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway, then stopped a Smithtown Speedway, where he stole two cases of beer, police said.

He was arrested around 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot after he left the store.

The Hauppauge man was charged with driving while intoxicated and petit larceny.

He was being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
