Starling Marte underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury back in November, but Mets manager Buck Showalter says the 2022 All-Star is on track to be ready for Opening Day.

“So far, so good,” Showalter said at his first spring training press conference on Tuesday. “We haven’t had any reason, anything that’s come to our attention that doesn’t make us think he’ll start the season.”

Marte had to drop out of the World Baseball Classic because of the injury, and will be limited to begin spring training, but Showalter reporting no setbacks is a good sign for New York, which hopes to have its starting center fielder to begin the 2023 campaign.

In his first season with the Mets last year, Marte his 16 home runs and stole 18 bases while batting .292 in 118 games.
