Mets owner Steve Cohen has heard the panic and criticism surrounding his team’s 3-4 start to the season, including a recent three-game sweep at the hands of the Brewers.
But even as the team stumbles out of the gate while dealing with numerous injuries, Cohen isn’t letting the noise in.
“That’s just the way it is. They’re entitled,” Cohen said of the reaction to the team’s rough start. “I tend to be an optimistic person.”
The Mets have gotten off to strong starts in recent years, but stumbled down the stretch. So, just as their performance in April of the previous years didn’t define the season, Cohen doesn’t believe this slow start should, either.
“It’s the same way in my business, in the hedge fund business, I'll have a bad week, and that doesn't define my year,” Cohen said. “That doesn't define my month. It's kind of the same thing. It’s a really small sample. It’s foolish to make conclusions in such a short period of time.”
