As carjackings and violent crime is surging in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities suburbs are seeing theft of a particular cart part surge.

September 8, 2020 Suburbs all over the Twin Cities are seeing a rash of thefts of catalytic converters off of cars. The city of Eagan has had 76 cases reported this year. The city says that it is easy to spot because the thieves are sawing off the piece of equipment in public areas. The cost to victims to repair is normally over $1,000. Police say that Hondas and Toyotas are the most targeted cars.
According to FOX 9, Eagan Police plan to use bait cars with cameras in them to help curb the problem. The bait cars will also automatically alert police of the attempted theft.
