The Minnesota Twins have landed the biggest prize in this year's free agency class, former Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa.

Correa's deal with the Twins is the highest AAV (annual average value) for an infielder in Major League Baseball history, coming in at $35.1 million dollars per year.

The Twins will reportedly give Correa opt-outs after each year of the deal.

The signing has not been officially announced by the Twins, but Correa's Twitter account features an image of Target Field.

Correa is coming off the best season of his career, leading all Major League position players in WAR (7.2), per Baseball Reference.

He played in 148 games in 2021, hitting .279 with 26 home runs and 92 RBIs and finishing fifth in the American League MVP balloting.

Correa was the number one overall pick in the 2012 baseball draft, with the Twins taking Byron Buxton number two overall.

Now, both are with the Twins after agreeing to multi-year, nine-figure contracts during the off-season.

Twins fans and media took to social media shortly after news of the signing broke.
