Karl Anthony Towns returned to Timberwolves practice today after he had been held out of all preseason activities with an undisclosed non-COVID illness.
On Monday, Towns declined to say what the illness was but said he was in the hospital dealing with it.
"I feel good. I'm still recovering. I'm still getting better. It's just is what it is," Towns said, noting that he couldn't raise his voice, explaining why he was speaking at a low volume, saying, "this is as much as I can give y'all."
The All-Star center won't suit up to play in the team's preseason opener Tuesday evening when they face off against the Miami Heat.
Towns said he wasn't "cleared to walk" until Saturday and that there were more drastic things to worry about than basketball. However, he shared his praise for those that helped him while he recovered.
"I don't want to get into specifics, but people know who they are," Towns said. "Shout out to those people in the hospital doing an amazing job."
He had not participated in any training camp activities until Monday, when he practiced at a limited capacity.
"I'm just happy to be back on the court. Happy to get cleared at least to be on the court," Towns said. "So I'm just happy to be playing basketball."
Towns was noticeably slimmer during the period of practice he participated in. He said he's down to 231 pounds due to a combination of his illness and a predetermined plan to play at a lighter weight.
