A breakthrough in contract negotiations was made overnight with union members and local hospitals, as both sides were able to reach an agreement that will now keep workers off the picket lines.
The agreement was reached between the union representing some 500 workers, including lab techs, speech pathologists, and occupational therapists, and others at Abbott Northwestern, Mercy, and Unity Hospitals, along with Allina’s Central Lab.
Representatives from Service Employees International Union (SEIU) say the final bargaining session lasted over 19 hours and followed over 90 combined bargaining sessions over the last year-plus.
Last week, the union filed an intent to strike notice with the hospital system if no deal was reached by this Sunday.
