Governor Walz signing a bill today... that will rename the highway that runs past Paisley Park museum and studios ...... the Prince Roger's Nelson Memorial Highway.
“Minnesotans love Prince,” said Walz. “They love him to this day. They love what it stands for, and they love the idea that this genius, this global icon, can come out and have roots and be truly Minnesotan. That is something that is incredibly special.”
Sherra Nelson is Prince's half-sister and she was at the signing as well.
“We will keep the family named there forever. Forever,” she said.
Purple signs are expected to go up along that stretch of Highway 5 in Chanhassen near the Paisley Park home and studio of Prince over the next 30 days.
The bill passed easily through the House and Senate. As with all memorial highway renaming, the costs of the signs and the ongoing maintenance must come from non-state sources. Prince’s fans have privately raised the money necessary to cover the costs of the signs and are committed to help fund the necessary maintenance according to the bill.
