A two-vehicle crash left three Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey players injured and another teammate dead on Sunday afternoon in western Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the 2019 Chevy Equinox carrying the four women was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 and approaching the Highway 29 intersection in Grace Township. Their vehicle collided with a Dodge Caravan.

The state patrol says one vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, but has not said which one.

Killed in the crash was Jori Lynn Jones, 19, of Little Canada. Jones is listed as a goaltender on the team's website and was entering her sophomore year.

The other three players are identified as 19-year-old Gianna Gasparini, 19-year-old Lily Mortenson, and 20-year-old Kayla Bluhm. They were also entering their sophomore year at Gustavus Adolphus College and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The van's driver was identified as 28-year-old Brandi Rasmussen. She also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Gustavus won the DIII women's ice hockey championship with a 2-1 win over Amherst College in triple overtime.

Mortenson had a goal in that game and assisted on the score that won the title.
