Here comes that winter weather storm.

It won't move into the Twin Cities metro until later on Tuesday, but it's already creating problems in the southwestern part of the state.

A serious ice storm early in the day began in the Buffalo Ridge area between Pipestone and Slayton.

A winter weather advisory goes into effect in the Twin Cities at noon and lasts through early Wednesday.

Wind gusts are expected to exceed 45 miles per hour.

With temperatures still above zero in the metro, that precipitation will be more rain than ice.

But there is expected some icy conditions on bridge overpasses and roadways, especially outside of the urban heat island during the Tuesday afternoon commute.

We'll have light rain on Wednesday, then the snow starts falling on Thursday and will continue through Friday and Saturday.

Total accumulation between three and six inches in the metro.

It's going to be much worse up north in Duluth and along the north shore of Lake Superior, where between 15 and 20 inches of snow is predicted by Friday.
