Officials with the Minnesota State Patrol say the crash that killed a Gustavus Adolphus hockey player earlier this week was caused when the driver of the vehicle she was in ran through a stop sign and into the path of another car.

The information comes from warrants filed on Thursday by the state patrol.

Four people in that vehicle were hurt, and 19-year-old Jori Lynn Jones of Little Canada did not survive.

Suffering non-life-threatening injuries were Gianna Gasparini, 19; Kayla Bluhm, 20; and Lily Mortenson, 19.

All four were members of the Gustavus hockey team.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, a 28-year-old woman from Benson, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the documents, the athletes were in a Chevy Equinox traveling east on highway 40 when it collided with the second vehicle, a Dodge Caravan, that authorities say had stopped at the intersection with before pulling out and into the path of the athletes' vehicle.

The crash happened Aug. 20 west of Willmar at the rural intersection with highway 29 that had a four-way stop sign.

State patrol officials would not say when their investigation would be completed.
