As of now, when the state fair gates open, attendees will not be permitted to bring firearms on the fairgrounds, after a Ramsey County judge denied a motion to suspend its no-gun policy.
In a 13-page order denying the motion, Judge Laura Nelson wrote “the right to bear arms is not without limits and is subject to reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions.”
The Minnesota Gun Caucus brought a lawsuit about two weeks ago challenging the nearly two-decade ban on firearms at the state fair. Nelson pointed out that signs prohibiting the guns go back to least 2003.
Judge Nelson wrote that the plaintiffs have been “long aware” of the state fair’s position on guns and that bringing a temporary injunction to block it at the time they did so close to the start “undercuts their claim of irreparable harm.”
