Jury selection begins Tuesday in the murder trial of the man accused in the shooting death of a Minneapolis North High School football quarterback.
15-year-old Deshaun Hill was was fatally wounded while walking to a bus stop on Feb. 9, 2022.
Hill and fellow students had been let out of class early that day to attend a protest of the no-knock warrant shooting death of Amir Locke.
30-year-old Cody Fohrenkam is charged with second-degree murder. A motive in the shooting is still not clear.
Hill was featured in a Showtime television series about his football team and the North High School community.
Hill's family believes the teen should not have been on the street that day because students were let out of class early to attend a protest.
The family sued the school district, and both sides reached a $500,000 settlement last week.
Fohrenkam's attorney wants a change of venue for the trial, claiming prejudicial influence of the program, but once again Hennepin County judge Julie Allyn rejected the request.
