Legendary Minnesota Vikings head coach Bud Grant has died.

The Vikings announced on social media that the 95-year-old Hall of Famer passed away Saturday morning.

Grant, the Superior-native who was a three-sport athlete at the University of Minnesota, served as the Vikings head coach for 18 seasons, leading them to four Super Bowl appearances, 11 division titles, one league championship and three NFC championships.

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Grant in the first round of the 1950 NFL Draft and he was also taken in the fourth round of the 1950 draft by the Minneapolis Lakers. The Lakers general manager was Sid Hartman.

Grant ended his professional basketball career after two seasons before going to play for the Eagles in 1951. After his contract expired at the end of the 1952 season, Grant went on to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL until 1956.

In January 1957, Grant became to Blue Bombers head coach and led the team to six Grey Cup appearances, winning the championship four times.

Grant became the Vikings head coach in March 1967 and retired following the 1985 season as the eighth most successful coach in NFL history.
