25-year-old Jawan Carroll will spend likely the rest of his life in prison after a judge sentenced him to 832 total months, or nearly 70 years, in prison.

During the October trial, it took four hours for a Hennepin County jury to find Carroll guilty of murdering two people in a shooting outside Monarch Nightclub in downtown Minneapolis last spring.

Carroll took the stand in October to say he acted in self-defense, blaming his rivals for starting the trouble that resulted in the death of two.

The judge acknowledged the role Carroll’s claims of self-defense took in his decision Friday.

Carroll killed 24-year-old Christopher Jones of Brooklyn Park and 21-year-old Charlie B Johnson of Golden Valley, who was a student at the University of St. Thomas set to graduate the next day.
