Minneapolis Public Schools is welcoming its new interim superintendent, Rochelle Cox.
Cox began her teaching career with the district in 1997 working in special education. She says she will focus on three areas in her new role. "The academic achievement of our students, effective teaching staff, and it's also about the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students and our staff," said Cox.

Asked if she is interested in the role permanently, Cox replied, "I’m looking forward to having 365 days to get this school district ready for their next superintendent."
The school board is developing a process to choose the next superintendent. In her time as the district's leader, Cox says she is committed to rebuilding community trust.
"We have many unions that we have contracts with, and it's my job to honor the commitments we've made in those contracts."
