Kids are still out of their classrooms on the fourth straight day of the Minneapolis teacher's strike.

Some parents have been utilizing the extended hours and activities offered by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.

Recreation Supervisor, John Haldeman, says the MPRB has been offering structured programming for Minneapolis Public School children who can't access their classrooms right now.

"Here at East Phillips, we've been doing projects every day," said Haldeman.

"Free play, board games, puzzles," he continued, "and then some gym time as well and a snack every day."

The MPRB designated ten recreation centers that will be open from 12-9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Park supervisors say they have varying capacities, about 40 on average.

Haldemann says some sites still have openings and is encouraging parents to register their children.

"A lot of parents have been really grateful that we're able to offer this space. It has been really cool to see, kids making new friendships."
