For the first time in three years, News Talk 830 WCCO will broadcast live from the Minnesota State Fair once again.

While it was a difficult choice not to broadcast from the fairgrounds last year, the station is glad to be back live with our listeners. Here is what the staff is most excited for:

Mark Freie

It will be great to see WCCO Radio back at the Minnesota State Fair, along with all the other businesses and people. Also, I'm looking forward to testing out a few of the ice-cold Minnesota State Fair beers!

Susie Jones

I have gone to the fair almost every year for most of my life.

When I was very young, my mom would take the 6 of us to the fair, where she would see how LITTLE she could spend during our time there. As I recall, we drank 5-cent milk and spent a great deal of time in the barns. We did, however, always spend money to go on Ye Old Mill. The boat ride through the dark tunnels and those silly displays along the way was a treat. As a teenager, it was always a fun ride to go on with a boyfriend and do a little smooching. When I became a mom, it was a joy to take them on the ride and to the barns. Overall, I do like the fair, but having worked at WCCO Radio for 25 years and doing shows there, I always get a little tired of it. The smashed cookies and french fries on the ground, walking from the parking lot to the booth, kind of made me sick to my stomach.

Now, as I grow older still, I look forward to the DNR building where I can watch the fish, eat sweet Martha's cookies and take one final ride in the dark, hoping for a kiss.

It will be my first time broadcasting live from the WCCO Radio booth, right in the heart of the busiest time of the day at the fair. I can't wait to meet the listeners and have some fun from our stage!

Plus, naturally, I'm excited to try all the new foods on the first day. I'll be trying as many as I can so we can talk about it from 3-6 p.m. on the air.

I am most excited to continue the tradition I have with my husband where we get out there early on a usually-cool Saturday morning, find a good breakfast, hit the art building, barns, and deep-fried some things. Big Fat Bacon for him and a Dole Whip for me. Then, finally, we finish our excursion with some good people-watching on a bench and wrap things up by early afternoon before it gets too crowded and hot!

For the first time in ten years, I will be back doing a show in front of a live audience at the State Fair. In the past, I did shows for a television audience. This will definitely be different. I am excited to see our radio listeners! The Morning News will be live on the first two days and the second Friday.

Honestly, I missed being out at the State fair for the last two years. The people-watching is second to none, and is there a better excuse to eat poorly for eight days or so?
