Osterholm on WCCO: Get as many vaccinated now, delay second doses

Osterholm says this will get as many 65-plus people vaccinated right away

With a probable surge in Covid cases within the next several weeks due to the more contagious UK variant, U of M Infectious disease director Dr. Michael Osterholm says it's time to change our vaccine strategy and to vaccinate as many people as possible over the age of 65 now, and worry about the second dose later.

"Those who still get one dose will have good protection from serious disease or disease in general," said Dr. Osterholm on the WCCO Morning News with John Hines. "Nobody is not talking about not giving two doses, just merely postponing the second dose so other doses can be used as first doses."

Osterholm said in that case, second doses would become available in April or May.
