St. Paul police are looking for evidence in and around an east-side apartment building after they say two people were killed early on Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred around 5:45 a.m. on the 1400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East, as the department shared that homicide investigators were on the scene.

Inside the apartment, police shared they found a woman who had died from apparent gunshot wounds, while outside the building, they found a man who was dead from what appeared to be the same thing.

Speaking with the media at the scene this morning, St. Paul Police Sergeant Mike Ernster shared that no other information was available at this time.

“We understand that everybody wants answers to what occurred out here this morning. We want answers also. We want answers for the victims’ families,” Ernster said. “We want answers for the people that live in this building. And we want answers for the people that live in this neighborhood and for our city.”

The deaths have so far been ruled homicides and make the 11th and 12th for the city this year.

The investigation remains ongoing at this moment.
