Owners of swim school that trained Lakeville's Regan Smith to the bronze proud of her Olympic debut

“She just had a really great performance and we just couldn’t be happier”

Lakeville, Minnesota's own Regan Smith won a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the Olympics in Tokyo Monday night.

Smith did much of her training at Rip Tide, which is owned by her coach Mike Parrato and his wife Amy.

“It’s just nailbiting,” Amy Parrato told WCCO's John Hines on the Morning News. “She just had a really great performance and we just couldn’t be happier.”

Parrato says they will be watching Reagan as she continues to compete in the upcoming events.

“Regan’s a really hard worker and she’s really put her time in,” Parrato told Hines.  “She has really deserved to inch her way up all along the way because of all her hard work, the time she’s put it.  Obviously she’s had her challenges.”

The Parrato’s daughter Jessica is also an Olympian and won the silver medal Monday in the 10-Meter Synchronized Dive event.

Smith still has another event, the 200-Meter Butterfly. Those semifinals are happening Tuesday in Tokyo.
