A suspect who was rammed through a fence by a Ramsey County Sheriff's SUV after opening fire on police on Wednesday has died.

It happened late Wednesday morning as deputies assisted Mounds View police on a domestic assault call involving shots fired at the AmericInn on Mounds View Boulevard at 10:40 a.m.

Officers found the man on the 5200 block of Pinewood Court, where he allegedly raised a gun and shot at police, hitting a Mounds View officer’s squad just above the driver’s side windshield, another hit just below a Ramsey County deputy’s windshield.

The deputy, who the sheriff's office says feared for his life, used his squad vehicle to ram the suspect through a fence.

Lexi Imholte, a college freshman and resident of the home where the suspect was hit, saw the aftermath.

"There was quite a bit of blood on his face," Imholte said. "I thought that he got shot in the head because of how much blood was on him."

The suspect was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The Minnesota BCA is investigating.
