Thao, Kueng appeal federal civil rights convictions

Ex-Minneapolis police officers Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng filed appeals in federal court on Wednesday after they were found guilty of violating George Floyd's civil rights and sentenced last month.

Thao, sentenced to three years, and Kueng, sentenced to three-and-a-half years, still face state charges related to Floyd's death in May 2020. Both are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Thao and Kueng were both on duty the night of Floyd's death. Thao was filmed holding back onlookers wile Kueng helped hold Floyd down.

Their state trial is scheduled to start on October 24.
