We're getting closer to the start of a major snow event in the Twin Cities.

It's predicted to be so significant that it could rival some of the legendary snowstorms, like the Halloween storm of 1991 or the December 2010 snowfall that collapsed the Metrodome roof.

WCCO chief meteorologist Paul Douglas says since forecasters began tracking the storm last week, the predictions have barely changed.

"If you keep getting the same output, the same data, run after run, day after day, and everything kind of agrees, your confidence level goes up," Paul told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News.

"Yeah, this is going to happen," he said. "Some spots are going to get ten or 12 inches, that's still a big deal. I think a lot of spots will wind up with twenty."

The first round of snow is expected later Tuesday, then the big one comes Wednesday into Thursday.

That second puch is expected to have high winds blowing the snow into massive drifts.
