Governor Tim Walz is announcing that there will be an extension of the state's reward incentive for COVID vaccines. Walz said that the program that awards a $100 Visa gift card to those who get their first shot will be extended by another week.
The original program was set to expire this past Sunday night.
With the extension, the incentive continues for everyone 12 and older who get their first dose of vaccine any time from July 30th through August 22nd.
Walz calls the vaccines the way to fight back against the virus. Vaccination rates have been 129% higher in the last few weeks than they were a month ago with the Delta variant of COVID becoming more prevalent across the state.
According to the state’s website, “As fall approaches and kids go back to school, getting vaccinated can help slow the spread of the highly-transmissible Delta variant and keep our communities safe. This is your chance to do your part – and earn $100 for it.”
Almost 55% of the state's total population are immunized now. That's a number that leads all Midwestern states.
If you do get vaccinated and want to claim the $100, you can register here.
