A state lawmaker is asking for charges to be filed after he says he was attacked at a conservative group's public meeting in the north metro last week.

It happened Thursday at the VFW in Blaine when the group Action for Liberty Minnesota, whose stated purpose is to Stop Governor Walz's shutdown powers, and "defend freedom" was holding what they called a grassroots meeting.

But when Republican State Representative Nolan West tried to get in, he claims he was physically removed from the hall by one of the event organizers. In a press release, West says that he's disgusted with the group's defense of that man who claimed the legislator was disruptive despite a video that seems to show that was not the case.

West says he hopes the charges will deter future politically motivated violence, that he says that has become all too common in today's political climate.

"My hope is these charges will deter future politically motivated violence, that has become all too common in today's political climate."

No word from police or prosecutors on whether charges have been or will be filed.
