More than two dozen vaccinated people aboard a Carnival Cruise have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Authorities say 26 crewmembers and one passenger returned positive test results for COVID-19 just before the ship made a stop in Belize City.

The Belize Tourism Board said all 27 were vaccinated, had mild or no symptoms, and were in isolation.

The ship, which left from Galveston, Texas, is carrying 1,441 crew and 2,895 passengers. The tourism board said 99.98% of the crew and 96.5% of passengers are vaccinated.

A spokesperson for Carnival told the Washington Post that the line disclosed that there were positive cases last week and multiple announcements have been made to guests on the ship. After the positive cases were identified, the ship put new mask rules in place for some indoor areas.

Carnival requires passengers to be vaccinated, with exceptions for children and people with medical issues. Starting on August 14, all passengers -- regardless of whether they are vaccinated -- must provide a negative COVID test within three days of boarding.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it has investigated the Carnival Vista and the ship remains under observation.
