Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has joined the growing public outcry to boycott the beer brand Bud Light following its parent company’s recent decision to hire transgender rights activist Dylan Mulvaney. However, he made one mistake in his now-viral video.
In his post on social media, Crenshaw vowed to boycott Anheuser-Busch beers for its recent campaign featuring Mulvaney.
“Just saw Bud Light’s stupid ad campaign,” Crenshaw said in his post to Instagram. “So, guess what we’re going to do? We’re going to throw out every single Bud Light we have in the fridge.”
Crenshaw then showed his fridge in the video, inside of which there were no cans of Bud Light. He joked, saying, “Alright, well, I guess that was easy.”
However, inside the fridge were several cans of Karbach, a beer also owned by Anheuser-Busch.
“Lol. Did a lot a research before filming this, huh? Typical dumb Republican,” one commenter wrote on the post.
Another commenter pointed out the likely higher price margins for the beer Crenshaw had in his fridge.
“But you buy other Anheuser Busch products. likely with a higher margin,” the comment said.
The commenter appears to be correct, as a 6-pack of Karbach sells for around $9.99, while a 12-pack of Bud Light goes for $12.99.
Conservatives have been quick to criticize the decision to hire Mulvaney, and even some celebrities have jumped on board the #boycottbudlight bandwagon, including artist Kid Rock. Those opposed to Mulvaney said that she is pushing “gender propaganda.”
As for Crenshaw, the video is still up on his Instagram, and he hasn’t commented on the irony of his beer choices.
