It's been more than three years since the unrest that followed the murder of George Floyd turned to a boiling point outside the 3rd precinct on Lake and Minnehaha in Minneapolis.
The unrest resulted in the abandonment and destruction of the 3rd precinct building, and the city has been looking at what it should do since then.
After announcing the results of a survey on public opinion, Mayor Frey says he is in strong support of a new location.
“This proposed location at Century Plaza is just a few blocks outside the 3rd precinct, right next to 35W,” Frey said. “With quick access to the entire precinct itself, it gives us a good route to provide officers with what they need to do their job and do it well.”
He says the timeline for moving the third precinct is late July 2024.
