Minnesota's budget surplus is down a little from its last forecast, but it's still hefty.
The new budget forecast that came out Monday morning shows a $17.5 billion surplus.
Last fall, the projected surplus was $17.6 billion.
"You still have a massive surplus," said WCCO political analyst Blois Olson. "I hate to downplay the idea that $100 million here and $100 million there isn't a big deal. But, when they're planning what they're spending, and what the asks are, it starts to seem not as much significance into planning."
This budget forecast marks the first time the projection was adjusted for inflation.
A law requiring that was signed earlier this legislative session by Governor Walz.
More details about the budget forecast are released later Monday.
Lawmakers use the budget forecast to help create a budget.
Democrats control the House and Senate, and governor's office, there will be lots of calls from a lot of people for how to use that money.
That includes the governor and his desire to send rebate checks to Minnesotans.
