Governor Tim Walz joined other elected officials on the stage at Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul Monday to take the oath of office for a second term ahead of a new legislative session that has DFL majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
"The era of gridlock in St. Paul is over," said Gov. Walz in his inauguration speech.
He laid out an ambitious checklist of goals for his second term, including sweepting changes to the state's educational system, ways to bolster job growth and public safety, and shoring up protections for abortion and all minorities.
"I will invest in you and your family no matter who you are or where you live to make sure Minnesota truly does become one Minnesota," said Walz.
Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan took her second oath of office, as did Attorney General Keith Ellison, Auditor Julie Blaha, and Secretary of State Steve Simon.
"We are here for one very clear and simple reason: to help improve lives. We have a moement. It's not about which party won and is in control," said Walz. "The moment is about the opportunity to work together and get things done."
