Seems like Boomer has come around: Daniel Jones is the guy for the New York Giants.
“Yesterday, by all accounts, was probably his best game as a Giant, based on what was riding on it,” Boomer said Monday. “The Giants wanted to kick the asses of the lowly Colts, and they did it. They did it both defensively, because the Colts’ offense is horrendous and has been for the last five weeks, and offensively, with both the arm and legs of Daniel Jones.”
Perhaps, under Brian Daboll, the Giants’ offense is starting to remind some of a lower-rent version of the Daboll’s old crew?
“Think about the Giants’ offense, then think of the Buffalo Bills. Then think of their quarterback, and think about the Giants’ quarterback,” Boomer said. “They’re about the same size, and basically the same kind of athletes. Jones doesn’t have the weapons Josh Allen has, but he put together a performance yesterday that was almost the perfect performance for their offense.”
The Giants will have a decision to make this off-season though, as Jones becomes a free agent, and their choices are sign him to a new deal, franchise tag him at $45 million, or move on.
In Boomer’s mind, either of the first two should be Jones’ preference.
“When I look at what Daniel Jones did yesterday, I say this: why would he want to go play somewhere else?” Boomer asked.
“There’s no way he’s going to want to play somewhere else,” Gio responded, “and it seems like the Giants don’t want him to go somewhere else either, as we’re starting to hear those reports that he’s coming back.”
Boomer believes Jones will ultimately get a contract extension, but he had one piece of advice for Jones:
“The Giants could put the franchise tag or the transition tag on him, but while I would look other places to try to get the number up for the Giants, why would you want to go play for a different coach in a different offense?” Boomer said.
Indeed, especially when the boys believe that Daboll is unquestionably the NFL Coach of the Year.
