Kenny Golladay believes he's 'day-to-day' after injuring ribs in Giants' loss to Dolphins

Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay left Sunday’s game for a time due to a rib injury, which he apparently suffered on his first catch of the game, the penultimate play of the Giants’ second drive in the first quarter.

“On the first catch a little bit, I kind of just felt like something popped. I don't think it's nothing too serious. Got treatment on it and I was able to come back out there,” Golladay said. “I want to be out there with the team all the time. I was able to go back out there.”

Golladay was back out on the next series, and he made back-to-back grabs including one over the middle, but those ended up being his final contributions of the day, as he finished with three catches for 37 yards and came out of the game again late in the fourth quarter.

"He came in at halftime, was able to return. And then towards the end of the game, he couldn't," head coach Joe Judge said. "Kenny plays with a lot of toughness and competitiveness. And when he's out there, he obviously makes plays for us. Kenny is a guy we talk about all the time of like, look, it may look covered at some points to other receivers, but when that's 19, don't be afraid to feed it to him?"

He’s proud of the fact he was able to stay in the game for the most part – “just had to take care of it a little bit in the back end,” he said – and said leaving the game earlier was “just being smart,” and he believes it’s just a day-to-day injury.

X-rays seemed to be negative – “no cracked ribs or nothing, so we’re good,” he said – but it’s another blow in what has been a disappointing first season with Big Blue for Golladay, who signed a four-year, $64 million deal this offseason but has missed three full games and sat out parts of others due to various injuries, and has just 26 catches for 409 yards and no touchdowns through Week 13.

The Giants’ offense has been suffering, too, having scored just 32 points the last three weeks since the bye (despite one being a win) and seeing their only two touchdowns in that span come from an offensive tackle and a little-used tight end pressed into action due to injuries.

“We’re moving the ball well, just today, at the end of the day, we didn’t execute the way we needed to,” Golladay said. “It's frustrating.
We’ve got to do a better job as an offense as a whole. The only thing we can do is go back to work, and luckily we have another game next week.”
