Gio gives Giants props for big win, then has to eat crow from fans for Friday rant

Boomer and Gio had to give three cheers to the Giants and Brian Daboll on Monday, as Gio had poo-pooed the G-Men all preseason but had to eat a little crow on the first NFL Monday of 2022 after Big Blue’s thrilling 21-20 win in Tennessee.

“The New York Giants, on the road, came back and beat last year’s No. 1 AFC seed, the Tennessee Titans, after being down 13-0,” Gio said to open Monday’s show. “This was a great debut for Brian Daboll, and you hope he and Joe Schoen turn this thing around.”

“There’s two stories there: Brian Daboll goes for two to win the game and Saquon Barkley makes an unbelievable move,” Boomer added, “and number two, it is about Saquon Barkley, because he looked amazing yesterday and had a great start to this season.”

And in those three cheers, we found out three things Gio liked about Daboll’s coaching on Sunday:

“One, great halftime adjustments; like, you’re getting your ass kicked in the first half, not playing well, so you come out and change some things and they were 20 times better in the second half,” Gio started. “Then, holding people accountable in-game, walking over to Daniel Jones after that terrible interception in the end zone and not giving him the Aaron Boone ‘hey buddy, it’s okay, you gave it a good shot;’ he’s going ‘what the hell were you doing?’ with the hands out and all that.”

And number three? Brass buttons, baby.

“The aggressiveness, having the balls to go for the two-point conversion,” Gio said. “Brian Daboll this morning is the king of the hill.”

But of course, while Gio ate crow and gave props to the G-Men…well, the callers had to make sure his plate was constantly full after he gave it to the Big Blue fanbase on Friday.

“I’m getting on Gio for Friday – I had to turn you off, Gio,” one called named Frank said. “You gotta give the Giants at least some chance to be relevant this year. You’re in New York!”

The Giants are 22-59 over the last five years, as Boomer noted…but maybe Gio’s stance will be the opposite of the mush?

“I don’t have to do anything Frank, they’ve just been horrible, so bad,” Gio retorted. “This is the take, and by the way, last year, I picked them to win the division and I was wrong, so maybe this year I’m wrong again – I said they’d be terrible and maybe they’ll be good.”

For all of about 15 seconds, anyway.

“But,” Gio hedged, “what I’ve seen from this team has been bad season after bad season, so there’s really no hope going into this year – even the general manager said there’s no hope with this roster!”
